Welcome Aboard the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System
The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) provides an opportunity to experience coastal Alaska at an unhurried pace and in close-up detail. As your vessel glides through the waters of the Inside Passage or along Alaska’s rugged coastline, you may see whales, dolphins, sea otters, bald eagles, and perhaps even bears.

In addition to interesting ports of call, you will pass fishing and logging outposts, small villages, and see Alaska’s bustling maritime activity from the deck of your ferry. It’s no wonder the AMHS has been named an All-American Road, a rare national designation that recognized the spectacular and unique experiences it offers travelers. Alaska’s ferry system was also listed as one of the top 10 ferry rides in the world in 2009 by the American Society of Travel Writers.

On Board Comfort

All AMHS vessels feature forward observation lounges and solariums for viewing the awe-inspiring scenery and wildlife passing by. Gift shops offer souvenirs and information books about Alaska, as well as travel essentials, magazines, and other goods.

Cabins are available on most ferries to provide basic sleeping and resting space. Many have complete bathroom facilities including showers. Public areas also serve as sleeping space for those traveling without a cabin. Comfortable reclining chairs are available, and some passengers choose to sleep in sleeping bags in the solariums aboard all vessels.

Virtually all ferries offer meal and beverage service. Healthful hot and cold meals of Alaska seafood, salads, sandwiches, and beverages are served throughout the day. Most vessels also have cocktail lounges.

Your Vehicle

The Alaska ferry system is distinguishable from all other modes of transportation to Alaska (and between many Alaska ports) by the ease of transporting your car, truck, or recreational vehicle. Motorcycles, bicycles, small boats, and kayaks are also welcome, though some restrictions apply.

The Alaska Marine Highway System , while a vital mode of transportation for Alaskans between coastal communities, is a great way for visitors to experience Alaskan hospitality and the spectacular beauty of the Last Frontier.
