How to Spend a Day in Juneau
While it’s unfortunate that you are only here for a day, there’s still plenty to see and do in a short amount of time.

Here's how to make the most of it ...

Juneau in a Full Day

If visiting during the summer months (May-September), you'll find a variety of activities and attractions to enjoy - and nearly all of the tours you'll find in the Things to See & Do section of this site can be easily done in a day. In fact, you can often fit in more than one activity - and we highly recommend it! But even if you can't fit an organized tour into your plans, a leisurely stroll through downtown's shops, galleries, museums, restaurants, and pubs will give you a nice taste of our unique little corner of Alaska.

Juneau in a Half Day

Activities you can do in half a day or less include hiking, biking and kayaking (guided or unguided), rainforest zipline tours, whale watching and wildlife viewing cruises, city sightseeing tours (including the Mendenhall Glacier and Visitor Center), Juneau Icefield flightseeing, trekking and dogsledding, the Mt. Robert's Tram and alpine hiking, and half-day sportfishing charters along with salmon hatchery, cannery, brewery, and botanical garden tours. Whew! Get more details in the Things to See & Do section.

Juneau in the Winter

If visiting between October - April, Juneau's arts community comes alive with a variety of theater, symphony, and opera performances. Check out our Events Calendar to see what's happening during your visit. Juneau also offers incredible cross-country and downhill winter sports between January and April. Eaglecrest Ski Area and the surrounding mountains offer intermediates and experts unforgettable skiing and snowboarding opportunities.
