Your Juneau-born hostess can share her knowledge and experience with great insider tips and recommendations to enhance your visit to her hometown.  She has a lovely flower and organic vegetable garden, apple and cherry trees, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries that will grace the morning table in a variety of homemade jams, jellies and syrups. Continental breakfast of fresh fruit, cereal and muffins is provided on weekdays, a hot cooked breakfast is served on weekends; and always, fresh French Roast coffee or a variety of teas are provided to start your day.  As time and seasons permit, you may also find such treats as fresh organic carrot juice or a variety of Debi\u2019s juice bar concoctions, fruit or berry smoothies.  Your host will share his rich Tlingit culture and Native history, plus his backyard smokehouse techniques that may include a taste of his smoked salmon samples.<\/P>

\nBreakfast
\nGuests choose between selections of breakfast dishes which are delivered to the suite. Our specialty is Alaska wild blueberry buttermilk pancakes with berries picked by Carolyn, your host. For your convenience: tea, coffee, and soft drinks are available in your suite and included in the nightly charge.\nActivitiesThere are many nearby attractions to keep you occupied. The mendenhall Glacier is only 12 miles away and can be reached by road. Other favorite activities include whale watching boat trips, ocean and river fishing, mining ruin exploring, beach combing, kayaking, hiking, and visiting museums. Bald eagles are abundant and often seen from the suite. Travel information is available from Carolyn, who will gladly give advice and assist in booking tours.\n

\nCarolyn and Alan were both born and raised in Juneau. Carolyn is an avid hiker and knows the extensive Juneau trail system well. With over 100 easily accessible trails, Juneau is a hiker's paradise. Carolyn often invites interested guests to walk along with her. The Dan Moller Trail is just two blocks from our Bed and Breakfast. From this moderate trail you can easily reach lovely medows, full of wildflowers. For the more adventurous, the meadows lead to mountain ridges with magnificent views.\n

\nWe have a 2 night minimum stay. Our rates are $115 to $150 in peak season, May 1 to Sept 30, and $100 to $125 in low season, Oct. 1 to April 30. We accept traveler's checks, personal checks, or cash. A deposit of one night's stay is required. Cancellation notice must be received seven(7) days prior to arrival for a refund, less $15 handling fee, or full charges apply.\n

Homestead Bed and Breakfast is situated on a portion of an original homestead from the 1920\u2019s. Our home looks out on open meadows full of wild strawberries and flowers and backed by spruce forest. Moose, bears and a large variety of birds are frequent visitors to our yard.  <\/P>

Centrally located, it is an easy walk or bike ride to shops and restaurants, the beach and the Salmon River. We are just over a mile from the airport. The local taxi or a rental car will get you to our door; then you can slow down your pace and switch to one of our bicycles to get around. Your hosts, Tom and Sally, have many years of experience accommodating visitors to Gustavus and Glacier Bay and are excited to be welcoming guests into our home. <\/P>

Accommodations include two comfortable upstairs bedrooms which share a bathroom as well as a large sitting room. In the morning, the dining room, which looks out over the garden and wildflower fields, will be set with hot fresh breakfast offerings, including freshly laid eggs from the henhouse. Coffee is ground fresh each morning; breads, scones, sourdough waffles and other goodies are baked daily in our kitchen; berries are picked in season to eat fresh or to make jam for the table. We make an attempt to grow, gather or catch as much of our food as possible, and any day may find us actively involved in this endeavor.  <\/P>

Children are welcome and will especially delight in exploring the nearby woods, gathering eggs from the henhouse or watching the endless antics of the ducks. We have some smaller bicycles for them and our quiet and flat roads make this an easy outing for them. Neighborhood children may even show up to play, giving travel weary adults some time to relax, knowing the kids are happy and safe.   <\/P>

There are limited dining options in Gustavus; however lunch and dinner choices are available and we can make recommendations and help with reservations.  <\/P>

You most likely will be taking some tours and keeping a busy schedule. We highly recommend scheduling an extra day here. Sleep in, take a leisurely walk, look for birds, pick wildflowers, have a picnic on the beach.
