Flock to the City Museum this summer for All Things Eagle and Raven, fish traps, an assay lab, artifacts from all 3 of the USS Juneau’s, interactive kids’ room and a lively and informative video on Juneau’s history.

 

Featured Exhibits:

  • All Things Eagle and Raven is a celebration of these two birds and their multi-faceted connection to Juneau’s community and environment.
  • School Time is an interactive exhibit for all ages featuring an old fashioned school room, with science, math, art and recess related activities.
  • The Mighty J and Only Ten Survived ­includes artifacts from all 3 of the USS Juneau and exhibit of stamps that tells the tragic story of the USS Juneau at the Battle of Guadalcanal.
  • Politics, Personalities and Power takes an in-depth look at Alaska’s capital city, featuring digital stories created by local middle school students on statehood, Juneau’s mining history, Alaska’s government, civil rights and Juneau’s diverse cultures. 
  • 500 – 700 year old basketry style fish trap and full-scale replica
  • Juneau: City Built on Gold –Comprehensive, 26-minute video on Juneau history runs every 30 minutes. 

 

Museum Offerings – In addition to our exhibitions, the Museum offers a variety of programs, resources, and more for visitors.

  • Historic Downtown Walking Tour – Every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday (now thru mid-Sept.) at 1:30 p.m.  Cost $10 for adults, $7 for youth 12 & under.  Price includes admission to the museum. 
  • The Museum Store features numerous trail guides, vintage toys, books on Juneau’s mining history, Juneau cookbooks, note cards, prints and crafts by local artists.  Museum totes, stainless steel water bottles and other unique local treasures available.
  • Virtual Exhibits includes photographs of a passenger voyage through the Inside Passage circa 1885; Construction of Alaska’s Capitol; and the arduous journey to rescue a miner in Taku Basin circa 1910. 
  • For Researchers:
    • Gastineau Channel Memories Volume I, is a searchable database of stories and photographs of families that lived in the area from 1880-1959.
    • Digital Bobon-line searchable database of Juneau history articles by our region’s preeminent historian Robert  N. DeArmond. 
    • Research appoints strongly recommended.

May 1st through September 23rd: Weekdays 9-5, Weekends 10-5

September 24th through April 30th: Tuesday – Saturday 10-4

Office Hours: Monday – Friday 9-5

 

Admission: $4.00 adults/ youth 12and under FREE
