Haines Visitor Center

Haines... the Adventure Capital of Alaska, with activities for every member of the family and for every season. With spectacular hikes, rafting journeys on the Chilkat River, kayaking, exhilarating jetboat rides, guided nature and wildlife tours and more excursions. Haines is where art and adventure meet with more artists per capita than any town in Southeast AK. Enjoy art galleries, museums, locally made products and native art. Visit the nearby Tlingit village of Klukwan to experience the rich culture and world renown art at the new heritage center. And, don’t forget about fishing for Alaska’s Pacific salmon by shoreline or charter boat. August and September offers some of Alaska's most accessible bear watching on the Chilkoot River while they are feeding on a river full of spawning salmon. You can always just sit and watch the view with a cocktail from our award winning distillery, a cold beer from the local brewery, or a hard cider from the meadery.

Haines is not just summer fun. In November, with over 3,500 Bald Eagles visiting the Chilkat River and Bald Eagle Preserve, Haines hosts the annual Alaska Bald Eagle Festival. Spectators and photographers come from around the world to partake in this fascinating natural event. In January, the ALCAN 200 snow machine race is held on the Haines Highway. For the true adventurer, Haines is world-renown for its backcountry and  Heli-skiing.
