Mendenhall Fireside Lectures: All Damsel, No Distress, women's mountaineering in Alaska

Mountains do not care who reaches their summit, but society does. As we celebrate Women's History Month, join UAF Arctic and Northern Studies graduate student and Trail Mix Inc Project Manager Meghan Tabacek as she dives into the inspiring, relatively unknown history of women's mountaineering in Alaska. Meghan will take viewers on an interactive journey through the iconic expeditions of Barbara Washburn, the Denali Damsels, and more!

The annual Fireside Lectures are a free, twelve-week series of hour-long, public presentations every Friday evening at 7 p.m. AKST, from January to March. This year the presentations will return to their usual in-person setting, with an accompanying virtual livestream here on Facebook. No tickets are necessary. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For an accessible copy of the 2023 Fireside Lecture Series schedule, please call the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center at (907)-789-0097 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or email amber.debardelaben@usda.gov.
