Powder Keg Cup

Eaglecrest is excited to announce the Powder Keg Cup! It’s an after hours uphill-downhill race series that will be held on three Saturdays in March!

The rules are pretty simple. We’ll have a mass start at the Hooter Chairlift base. Each race will loosely follow a designated route all the way to the top of Ptarmigan. Once there, racers will grab a marker and get down the mountain as fast (and safely) as possible. The finish line is the same as the starting line. First one to cross wins!

Each race will have its own podium for top finishers. Points will be awarded to all racers based on the results. Because this is a three-race series, we will crown overall champions by averaging racers’ two best point totals. If you can’t make all three races, don’t worry, just make sure you’re here for two out of three!

There will be men’s and women’s divisions for ski touring, splitboarding, and telemarking. Racers can choose whether they want to be a Heavy Hitter or Heavy Metal, which really boils down to competitiveness. As a general rule, Heavy Hitters are more serious racers, and Heavy Metals are more relaxed.

No matter your division, competitive spirit, costumes, and shenanigans are encouraged. Prizes will be awarded accordingly. Bragging rights are eternal!

3:00 PM – Registration Opens @ Old Tower Bar
4:15 PM – Rules Meeting @ Hooter Chairlift Base
4:30 PM – Mass Start @ Hooter Chairlift Base

Race Routes:
For the uphill portion, one race will go East, one race will go Middle, and one race will be a Choose Your Own Adventure. Downhill routes will remain secret, in part because we haven’t decided yet. Final details will be announced at each Rules Meeting.

Eaglecrest Grill will be open late with snacks. Old Tower Bar will be open pending the approval of catering event permits.

Racers must be 21+ years of age or older to participate. Racers must carry an avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe.
