Getting To Juneau
Remoteness was never so accessible
Juneau is Alaska’s closest “big” city to the Lower 48, which makes it surprisingly reachable any time of year. In less than a three-hour flight from Seattle, multiple direct flights arrive daily. Charter, regional and major airlines all serve Juneau International Airport, Southeast Alaska’s air transport hub.
Cruising remains the most popular way to explore the Inside Passage; Juneau is a port of call for large and small lines, alike. For the independent traveler, the state-run Alaska Marine Highway ferry system serves more than 30 coastal communities. A true adventure, the 1500-mile Alaska-Canadian Highway—aka the “ALCAN”—crosses some of the world’s wildest country. But of course, any road trip to Juneau necessitates a leg at sea; the only “road” in is the Alaska Marine Highway.
