Heritage Coffee Roasting Co. was established in 1974, bringing specialty coffee to Southeast Alaska. Our adherence to standards of high quality in coffee roasting have been recognized throughout the country. Heritage Coffee Company was most recently the recipient of the prestigious 2002 Presidential award from Dr. Miguel Angel Rodriguez, President of Costa Rica. This award was given in recognition of Heritage Coffee Company’s long term dedication to promoting quality, consistency and sustainability. With retail outlets throughout Juneau, Alaska, Heritage has a strong presence throughout the community. As a "Roast to Order" business, Heritage never warehouses roasted coffee. Our premium coffees are roasted for each order and dated, guaranteeing the highest level of freshness. We currently roast and blend over 30 varieties of beans from around the world. Many of our coffees have won national awards. Heritage Coffee company has been featured regionally and nationally in Alaska Magazine, Alaska Airlines Magazine, The Alaska Southeaster, Alaska Business Monthly, Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times, as well as in trade magazines including Coffee Review, Coffee and Cuisine and Coffee & Tea Trade Journal. In addition we have produced lectures and presentations for several programs including the Specialty Coffee Association of America's (SCAA) annual convention. These feature interviews and cover articles have generated excellent name recognition as well as promotion of Alaskan made products. Heritage Coffee is a member of the Specialty Coffee Association of America. The SCAA is a non-profit organization that promotes the use of high quality coffee in America. This organization helps set the high standards by which specialty coffee companies operate. Heritage coffee has been with the SCAA since its inception in 1983. Company President Grady Saunders served on the Board of Directors of the Specialty Coffee Association of America for six years from 1990 to 1995, and served as president from 1993 to 1994. During his time as President, he increased the association membership base from 268 companies to 2230 companies. He represented the Specialty Coffee Association of America in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Guatemala, Brazil and Nicaragua promoting quality, sustainability and education with farmers and buyers within the U.S. consumer market.
